I am indeed very happy to note that the Health and Family Welfare Department of our own government is organising a national symposium on “Antibiotic Stewardship and Infection Prevention & Control” program on 23rd January 2016 at Crowne Plaza Kochi, Kerala. It gives me added pleasure to know that an Antibiotic policy is also being brought out for the first time in the country by our State Government.
I understand that these programs help clinicians improve the quality of patient care and improve patient safety through increased infection cure rates and reduce treatment failures. This will also optimize the treatment of infections and reduce adverse events associated with antibiotic use which is the need of the hour.
As we all are aware about the growing and scary antimicrobial resistance pattern emerging in the country, this is of utmost important that all stakeholders should come together and brainstorm towards appropriate methodology to be adopted to correct unwarranted prescriptions and change the resistance pattern in our favour. So I hope that the deliberations in the program will help professionals from various institutions and the goal of this program will provide a road-map to other states with this Antibiotic Policy that has been compiled to better serve to those who are concerned.
I extend my best wishes to the organizers and participants and wish the program all success.
